How to Get to Cukurova Airport: Transport Options and Timing Guide

8 min read 6 sections EcrinVIP Transfer & VIP Car Rental

Most missed flights are lost on the road, not at the gate. If you are flying out of the Adana and Mersin region, knowing how to get to Cukurova Airport matters more than it used to. Since August 2024, commercial flights no longer leave from Adana Sakirpasa inside the city. They depart from Cukurova International Airport (COV) in the Tarsus district of Mersin province. The drive is longer. Your plan should be too. In this guide, the EcrinVIP team walks you through every way to reach the airport, how to time your departure and what to expect at the terminal as an international traveller.

Where is Cukurova Airport?

Cukurova International Airport sits in Tarsus, between Adana and Mersin. It serves both cities and took over the passenger traffic of Adana Sakirpasa Airport, which closed to commercial flights. Some older hotel notes, travel blogs and even taxi drivers may still mention "Adana Airport" in the city. Double-check that your ticket says COV. Then plan your trip to Tarsus, not to central Adana.

Approximate road distances from the airport:

  • Tarsus centre: about 25 km
  • Adana city centre (Seyhan): about 35-40 km, roughly 35-50 minutes depending on traffic
  • Mersin city centre: about 45-50 km, roughly 45-60 minutes by private car
  • Ceyhan: about 80-90 km

These figures shift with the route, the time of day and the weather. Weekday rush hours can slow the exit from either city. Plan for heavy traffic, not an empty road.

How to get to Cukurova Airport: four options

Havamas airport bus

Airport buses run between COV and Adana, Mersin and Tarsus. Locals often search for "Havas", but the operator at this airport is Havamas. In Adana, buses leave from central points such as shopping malls and the main bus terminal; in Mersin, from major stops in the city. Departures run roughly every hour, including at night. Times and fares change, so confirm the current schedule on Havamas's official channels before you set off. Because the bus makes stops, expect about an hour from Adana and up to an hour and a half from Mersin. Our Cukurova Airport shuttle bus guide covers how to use it step by step.

A practical note for visitors: signage at city stops and on the bus is mostly in Turkish. Have the name of your stop written down, and check in advance how fares are paid on board.

Taxi

A taxi takes you door to door. That is its main strength. The weak point is price certainty. The airport is a long way from both city centres, so the meter climbs quickly, and night rates and luggage can make the final figure hard to predict. From nearby Tarsus a taxi can make sense. From central Adana or Mersin, agree on how the fare will be calculated before you get in, and ask whether card payment is possible.

Rental or private car

Driving yourself and leaving the car at the airport works for short trips. On longer trips, think about parking time and the drive home after a tiring flight. Check current parking information through the airport's official announcements.

Private transfer

With a private transfer, a vehicle collects you at your hotel or home and drops you at the terminal. No changes, no stops. At EcrinVIP the price is fixed per vehicle, not per passenger, and you see the fixed price on the route page before you book, so there is no meter and no currency guesswork. We operate 24/7, so early-morning and late-night departures are covered. Our fleet includes Mercedes Vito VIP, Sprinter, midibus and coach options, which means the same setup works for a solo business traveller, a family with heavy luggage or a tour group. Child seats are available on request. We do not take online payment; you pay with the method you choose at booking: cash, card or bank transfer. See routes and vehicles on our Cukurova Airport transfer page.

When should you leave for your flight?

The question we hear most often from guests is simple: "What time should we leave?" The answer is the sum of three parts.

  1. Your target arrival time at the airport: many airlines recommend arriving about 2 hours before domestic flights and about 3 hours before international flights. Check-in and bag-drop deadlines vary by airline, so follow what your ticket says.
  2. Travel time: about 35-50 minutes from central Adana and 45-60 minutes from central Mersin by private car. By bus, add the time to reach the stop and the extra stops on the way.
  3. A buffer: at least 30 minutes for traffic, rain, a fuel stop, waiting for the bus or a forgotten passport.

Here is a quick example. For a 10:00 international flight with a 3-hour recommendation, you want to be at the terminal by 07:00. From central Mersin, about an hour on the road plus a 30-minute buffer means leaving your hotel around 05:30. If you plan to take the bus, also allow for reaching the stop and catching an earlier departure.

On night flights we often see travellers leave late because they expect empty roads. Roads may indeed be quieter. Finding a taxi or matching a bus departure at that hour can still cost you time. Keep the same buffer at night.

Arriving at the terminal: luggage and documents

At the kerb, most time is lost unloading bags and searching for documents. As at most airports, waiting at the drop-off point is limited, so be ready before the car stops. A short checklist for international travellers:

  • Check your airline's baggage allowance and weight limits the day before you fly.
  • Mention large suitcases, strollers, bicycles or golf bags when you book a transfer so the right vehicle is assigned.
  • Keep your passport, boarding pass, any visa documents and phone charger in your hand luggage.
  • Confirm liquid and electronics rules for carry-on bags with your airline.
  • If you take the bus, check that everything comes out of the luggage hold when you get off.
  • Travelling with children? Request a child seat when you book.

Families and groups with lots of luggage benefit most from travelling together in a single vehicle. Everyone steps out at the same time and the bags end up in one place, which makes the walk to check-in much calmer.

Which option suits you?

The right choice depends on your budget, departure time, group size and luggage. Travelling alone with a light bag and a flexible schedule? The Havamas bus is a reasonable start. Staying close to the airport in Tarsus? A taxi may be enough. For families, groups, business travel and very early or very late departures, a private transfer is usually the calmer option. With per-vehicle pricing, the cost per person drops as more people share the car.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there public transport to Cukurova Airport?

Yes. Havamas airport buses connect Cukurova Airport with Adana, Mersin and Tarsus. Many people search for "Havas", but Havamas is the operator here. Buses run roughly every hour, including at night. Times and fares change from time to time, so check the current schedule on Havamas's official channels before you travel, and keep your stop name written down in Turkish.

How early should I leave for Cukurova Airport?

Many airlines suggest arriving about 2 hours before domestic flights and about 3 hours before international ones. Add the travel time: roughly 35-50 minutes from central Adana and 45-60 minutes from central Mersin by private car. Then add at least 30 minutes as a buffer. If you take the bus, include the time needed to reach the stop.

Can I book a transfer for a very early or late flight?

Yes. EcrinVIP runs 24/7, so we arrange vehicles for departures at any hour, including the middle of the night. Share your pickup address and flight details when you book. The price is fixed per vehicle and shown on the route page before booking, so a late-night pickup does not come with a surprise on the bill.

How do I pay for an EcrinVIP transfer as a foreign visitor?

We do not take online payment. You pay with the method you select when booking: cash, card or bank transfer. The price is per vehicle, not per passenger, so the number of people in your group does not change the total. You can see the fixed price for your vehicle on the relevant route page before you confirm.

Know your flight time? Plan the ride today. Enter your pickup address and flight details in our booking form, and we will confirm the vehicle and fixed price so you only have to think about packing.
