Cukurova Airport to Gaziantep: why land at COV at all?
Gaziantep has its own airport. Even so, some travellers fly into Cukurova Airport and cover the remaining 230-250 km or so by road. That is usually where the question of Cukurova Airport to Gaziantep transport comes up: does it make sense, and how do you do it? The same question applies to Niğde, which lies about 170-190 km away on a road through Pozantı. This guide covers both long routes for visitors arriving in southern Turkey.
Cukurova International Airport (IATA: COV) is in the Tarsus district of Mersin province. Since August 2024 it has been the shared airport for Adana and Mersin, after Adana Sakirpasa Airport closed to commercial flights. The region's air traffic now comes together here. For long-distance travellers, the real planning starts after landing.
Why fly into Cukurova when you are going to Gaziantep?
The short answer is flight options. Airports differ in which cities they connect to, on which days and at what times. If you cannot find a convenient flight into Gaziantep from where you start, a flight into Cukurova can save the plan. Fares between the two airports can also vary by date.
The reasons we hear most from our guests:
- No suitable flight to Gaziantep on the date or at the time they need.
- Part of the trip involves meetings in Adana or Mersin.
- A group travelling from different countries or cities wants to meet at one airport.
- Open-jaw plans: arriving at one airport and leaving from the other.
Decide when you book your ticket. If your schedule and fare point to Gaziantep Airport, use it; EcrinVIP also has branches in Gaziantep and at Gaziantep Airport. If you land at Cukurova, plan the long road leg in advance. Improvising after a long-haul flight is no fun.
The road from Cukurova Airport to Gaziantep
Most of the drive to Gaziantep follows the TAG motorway (Tarsus–Adana–Gaziantep), and the total distance is about 230-250 km. The motorway is comfortable. It is also long. Driving time depends on traffic, rest stops and your final address, so we do not give an exact number of minutes.
By public transport the trip comes in several stages. The Havamas shuttle (often searched for as "Havas") runs only between the airport and Adana, Mersin and Tarsus. To reach Gaziantep you would ride to Adana first, then look for an intercity bus at the bus station. Signs and announcements are mostly in Turkish, and timetables change. Check current Havamas times and fares through its official channels, and confirm intercity bus times with the operators.
A metered taxi over more than 230 km is the hardest option to price in advance. On long distances the meter climbs quickly, night rates can apply, and luggage charges are often unclear.
With a private transfer the price is fixed per vehicle, not per person. You can see the fixed per-vehicle price on our Cukurova Airport Gaziantep transfer page before booking. Need a coffee or a rest stop on the way? Just tell your driver.
Cukurova Airport to Niğde: the mountain road via Pozantı
Niğde lies north of the airport, on the far side of the Taurus Mountains. The road is about 170-190 km and passes through Pozantı. For Cukurova Airport to Niğde trips, the character of the road matters as much as the distance: the plain ends and the mountains begin.
In winter, weather can affect this route. It is worth checking current weather and road conditions before you set off. Public transport looks much like the Gaziantep option: there is no direct Havamas service to Niğde, so you would change to an intercity bus in Adana. Every change means another wait with your bags.
Our Niğde guests are often business travellers or people visiting family. Prices and vehicle options for this route are on our Cukurova Airport Niğde transfer page. If you are continuing to another city after Niğde, have a look at our intercity transfer service.
Planning a long-distance airport transfer
On a long trip, small details grow. A situation we often see with late-night flights: a tired passenger lands, tries to find onward transport, and ends up staying overnight in Adana. A vehicle booked in advance removes that whole chain.
- Share your flight number when booking; we track your flight and your driver waits if it is delayed.
- Pick the vehicle by passengers and luggage: Mercedes Vito VIP, Sprinter, midibus or coach.
- Request a child seat in advance if you are travelling with young children.
- Give the exact destination; for a village, factory or residential complex, send a map pin.
- Choose how you will pay (cash, card or bank transfer) when booking; we do not take online payments.
- For the return, we agree a pickup time together, working back from your flight with a generous buffer.
For international departures, follow your airline's recommended check-in time and allow extra for passport control. On a long road an unexpected slowdown is always possible. Frequently Asked Questions
Should I fly into Cukurova Airport or Gaziantep Airport?
It depends on flight options. Airports differ in the cities, days and times they are served from. If there is a convenient flight into Gaziantep, that is the shortest way. If you cannot find a suitable time, or part of your trip is in Adana or Mersin, landing at Cukurova and planning the roughly 230-250 km road leg as a private transfer is a sensible alternative.
Is there a direct bus from Cukurova Airport to Gaziantep?
No. The Havamas shuttle runs only between the airport and Adana, Mersin and Tarsus, so there is no direct airport bus to Gaziantep. With public transport you would ride to Adana first and then change to an intercity bus. Times and fares change, so confirm them through Havamas's official channels and with the bus operators before you travel.
Is the road to Niğde difficult in winter?
The Niğde route crosses the Taurus Mountains via Pozantı, and winter weather can affect the journey. We recommend checking current weather and road conditions before you leave. On the way back to the airport, leaving a wider time buffer than usual before your flight is the most reliable protection against slowdowns on the mountain section.
How is the price set for a long-distance transfer?
At EcrinVIP the price is per vehicle, not per person, and it is fixed at booking. You can see the fixed per-vehicle price for Gaziantep and Niğde on the route pages. Meet-and-greet with a name sign is free, and because we track your flight, your driver waits if you are delayed. You pay by cash, card or bank transfer, as you choose.
