Gaziantep Gastronomy and Zeugma Culture Tour

Gaziantep · Branch service

Chauffeured city day tour for the Zeugma Mosaic Museum, Gaziantep Castle, the Coppersmiths’ Bazaar and food stops. Hourly hire. Book with EcrinVIP.

Ask most visitors what a Gaziantep city tour means and you get two answers: the Zeugma Mosaic Museum and baklava. Both are right. But the city has more to give, and spending a day that starts with katmer and ends with menengiç coffee on foot, flagging taxis or circling for parking takes half the flavour out of it. Gaziantep holds a place in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for gastronomy, and behind that title are neighbourhood bakeries, small workshops tucked inside the bazaar and beyran pots already bubbling at dawn. On the EcrinVIP chauffeured gastronomy and Zeugma culture tour, the car waits at every stop. Your only job is deciding what to taste next.

Museum in the morning, bazaar in the afternoon

The most common planning mistake is filling the busiest hours with food and squeezing the museum into late afternoon. The Zeugma Mosaic Museum is a big building. Alongside the famous Gypsy Girl mosaic, floor mosaics, fresco fragments and statues rescued from the ancient city of Zeugma on the Euphrates fill hall after hall. Rush it and everything blurs together. Going close to opening time means thinner crowds, fresher legs and calmer light for photos.

The afternoon belongs to the historic centre. Hammers still ring out in the Coppersmiths’ Bazaar, and the Zincirli Bedesten and the old hans around it sell spices, dried aubergines and peppers for stuffing, and Antep pistachios. Gaziantep Castle sits in the same area. It was damaged in the 2023 earthquakes, so access and restoration work can change from season to season — check the current situation before you go. Your chauffeur drops you at the nearest sensible point to the bazaar entrance, you walk the narrow lanes, and when you tell us which exit you will use, the car is there.

Some guests prefer to flip the order. That works. We just point out that the museum can be busier after lunch, and a full stomach slows you down in those long halls.

If you want to see where the mosaics came from, there is one more option: the Zeugma archaeological site itself, near Nizip on the banks of the Euphrates. The round trip from the city plus time on site takes a good part of the day, so it fits best into a full-day hire. Check visiting conditions before you go.

A tasting order for your Gaziantep gastronomy tour

Timing matters in Antep cooking. Some dishes are morning food; by afternoon you may not find them at all. Here is the rough order we suggest:

  • Early morning: beyran or katmer. Beyran is a garlicky, peppery soup of lamb and rice; katmer is a paper-thin pastry with pistachio and clotted cream. Both are breakfast dishes and get harder to find towards noon.
  • Lunch after the museum: kebab — simit kebab, Ali Nazik, aubergine kebab — or yuvalama if you want something closer to home cooking.
  • Between bazaar lanes: lahmacun and ayran for a light break.
  • Mid-afternoon: menengiç coffee, made from wild pistachio. It tastes a little like coffee but has no caffeine. Good for tired legs.
  • End of the day: baklava. Save it for last, or it will sit you down at midday.
  • To take home: pistachios, dried vegetables for stuffing, isot pepper and a box of baklava. There is room in the boot and the boxes ride flat.

We do not name venues. Everyone in Antep has their own “best baklava shop” and we would rather stay out of that argument. Tell us your favourite and we add it; if you are undecided, your chauffeur can describe the options nearby and you choose.

How the Zeugma museum transfer and hourly hire work

At EcrinVIP this is not a point-to-point transfer. It is hourly hire. You book the car for a half or full day; the chauffeur collects you from the hotel, waits at each stop and adapts if the plan runs long or short. The price is per vehicle and does not change with the number of passengers. We use a Mercedes Vito VIP for families and small groups, and a Mercedes Sprinter VIP for larger groups of friends or corporate outings.

What the price does not include is just as clear: museum tickets, meals and guiding. Our service is chauffeured transport. Your chauffeur knows the roads, the parking spots and the bazaar entrances, but is not a licensed guide. If you want the stories behind each mosaic, work with a licensed guide — we can point you to one on request.

Child seats can be added for an extra charge; just note the child’s age when booking. Pay in the car by cash or card, or by bank transfer. For a corporate team outing, we issue an invoice too.

Build your day in four steps

  1. Tell us how many hours you have and where you are staying. Coming straight from the airport? Add your flight number and the luggage stays in the boot all day.
  2. Mark the places you definitely want to see — the Zeugma Mosaic Museum, the Coppersmiths’ Bazaar, the castle quarter or the Emine Göğüş Kitchen Museum.
  3. Share any food preferences. Vegetarians, gluten-sensitive guests or anyone who avoids chilli: say so early and we will suggest stops accordingly.
  4. We confirm the vehicle, the hours and the fixed price in writing. On the day, your chauffeur sends the plate number, phone and live location on WhatsApp.

Small adjustments by season

Gaziantep summers are hot, especially in the afternoon. In July and August, putting the museum in the morning and the bazaar walk in late afternoon helps a lot, and cooling off in an air-conditioned car between stops is a bonus. Spring and autumn are the best walking seasons. Winter days are short, so head for baklava before the afternoon drags on.

During Ramadan some restaurants change their daytime routine, and traffic builds in the run-up to iftar. On religious holidays, museum and bazaar hours may differ. Checking the museum’s opening days and hours before you go is a good habit in any season. If your visit falls in one of these periods, message us and we will build a realistic plan.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours do you need for a Gaziantep city tour?

Half a day covers the Zeugma Mosaic Museum and a few food stops for most guests. If you also want the Coppersmiths’ Bazaar, the castle quarter, the old hans and a proper baklava break, we recommend a full day. Slow walkers, keen photographers and families with children usually enjoy a bit more slack. Undecided? Start with half a day and ask to extend on the spot, subject to availability.

Does the Zeugma Mosaic Museum transfer include the entrance ticket?

No. The EcrinVIP price covers the car and chauffeur; museum entry, meals and shopping are on you. You can buy tickets at the museum, and it is worth checking in advance whether a pass such as the Müzekart applies to you. Because we fix the transport price in writing before you book, there are no surprises on the transport side during the day.

Is there a guide on a chauffeured Gaziantep gastronomy tour?

Your chauffeur knows the routes, parking points and the best order for your stops, but is not a licensed tourist guide. If you want detailed stories in the museum or a narrated walk through the old bazaar, we recommend a licensed guide. Add a note to your booking and we can point you to one; guiding fees are separate from the transport price and agreed with the guide.

Can we start the city tour straight from the airport?

Yes. We meet you at Gaziantep Airport with a name sign, load the luggage and head straight to the first stop. We track your flight, so if it is delayed the programme shifts to the new time with no extra waiting charge. A hotel drop-off in the evening, or an airport run for a same-day departure, can go into the same plan.

Do you provide child seats for family tours?

Yes, child seats are available for an extra charge. Tell us the child’s age and how many seats you need, and we prepare the car accordingly. With children, a shorter museum visit, an early lunch and a break in a park make the day better for everyone — we are happy to shape the programme around that.

Send your list of stops on WhatsApp

A single message is enough. Even a short list like “Zeugma, katmer, coppersmiths, baklava” gives us what we need. Enter your date, pick-up point and the number of hours in the booking form at the top of this page and you will see the fixed price for the Gaziantep gastronomy and Zeugma culture tour before you confirm. Or send the list on WhatsApp and we will suggest an order that suits city traffic.
